Teaching and Course Design

Course Design: LITS 3915: Storytelling in Media

  • Proposed and designed course which will be the first literary studies digital humanities course in the Faculty of Humanities and Education

  • To be offered as an undergraduate elective in from Semester 2 2023/2024.

  • Course Description

This course presents students with theoretical knowledge required for the creation of digital narratives in formats such as the graphic novel, electronic literature, film, video games, and virtual reality. It allows students to develop their creative and critical analysis skills by merging narrative theories, visual analysis, and medium-specific structural techniques. The inculcation of these skills will allow students to interpret, analyze and create digital narratives from a media-conscious, theoretically aware perspective. For students with pre-existing knowledge of the technical design of graphic novels, film video games or virtual
reality simulations, the course aims to provide them with the theoretical toolkit to enhance their approaches to
reader/audience-reception, effective narrativity and UX design.
